Artists in Canada and their Health Disparities
Presentation at Performing Arts Medicine Association Toronto conference
There are many reasons for individual differences in health outcomes, including many social and economic factors. Kelly Hill’s presentation examined the situation of artists and highlighted some key factors that may have an influence on the wellbeing of performing artists, such as education and income levels, self-employment rates and the resulting lack of benefits. To the extent that these social determinants of health may have a strong influence on individual wellbeing, information about these factors could lead to a better understanding of health disparities among artists and could be essential in justifying specialized health services and research to support performing artists in Canada.
